BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky – The Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) Blue Raiders are looking to secure their first conference win of the 2025 season as they face off against the Western Kentucky University (WKU) Hilltoppers on Saturday, Nov. 15. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CDT at Houchens-Smith Stadium.

This game marks the 75th meeting of the storied rivalry known as the ‘100 Miles of Hate.’ MTSU comes into the contest struggling at 1-8 overall and 0-5 in Conference USA, while WKU, boasting a 7-2 record and 5-1 in conference play, is on a two-game winning streak, solidifying their position as a contender for the CUSA Championship.

The Blue Raiders are hoping to end a six-year losing streak against the Hilltoppers. MTSU has not beaten WKU since 2019 and currently sits at the bottom of the conference standings alongside Sam Houston.

In their most recent updates, MTSU quarterback Nick Vattiato, who has thrown for 2,150 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, has been ruled out due to injury, further complicating the Blue Raiders’ situation. They will also be without running back Jekail Middlebrook and several other key players.

In Vattiato’s absence, redshirt freshman Roman Gagliano is expected to start. Gagliano is looking to lead the team to its first victory in two months. MTSU head coach Derek Mason shared his thoughts on the challenge ahead, emphasizing the importance of execution over the historical rivalry.

“We want to play our best ball, and that’s exactly what we have to do,” Mason stated. The focus, he said, should be on self-improvement rather than solely on their rival.

WKU will look to continue its dominance, driven by the performances of redshirt freshman quarterback Rodney Tisdale Jr., who has stepped in following an injury to Maverick McIvor. Tisdale has a completion percentage of 70% and an average of 264 passing yards per game.

“As a dual-threat quarterback, his ability shows up,” Mason added, highlighting the challenges posed by Tisdale and the Hilltoppers’ strong offense.

Kickoff for this critical matchup is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CDT, with coverage available on ESPN+.
