CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Milwaukee Bucks faced their second game without superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo on November 13, 2025, suffering a 111-100 defeat to the Charlotte Hornets. The loss followed a surprising victory over the Golden State Warriors just days earlier.

Without the two-time MVP, the Bucks struggled to penetrate the Hornets’ defense effectively. Bucks coach Doc Rivers commented on the performance, stating, “I just didn’t think the ball moved. They shot 44 percent, we shot 45 percent. But they did theirs better because when they missed, they got it back.”

The defeat left the Bucks with a 7-5 record, placing them in a tie for fifth in the Eastern Conference alongside the Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat. Looking to rebound, the Bucks will host the Hornets again as part of the NBA Cup group play on Friday.

Through 12 games, the Bucks’ offensive strategy has been to maximize scoring, currently ranking eighth in offensive rating but only 20th in defensive rating. The team had hoped to compensate for their defensive shortcomings with strong offensive numbers, a plan that might need reevaluation following Wednesday’s performance.

Antetokounmpo’s absence has left a significant void, but players like Ryan Rollins have stepped up. The 23-year-old guard is averaging 17.3 points and providing strong defensive contributions, leading the league in deflections per game (6.3). Rivers acknowledged Rollins’ efforts, highlighting his impact on both ends of the court.

While Rollins shines, concerns linger regarding the overall team performance, particularly regarding rebounding. The Bucks currently rank 25th in defensive rebounding rate, a critical weakness that could hinder their ability to compete against stronger opponents.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is expected to return to the lineup soon. Prior to his injury, he was leading the league in scoring, averaging 33.4 points per game. His dynamic play remains crucial for the Bucks’ aspirations this season.

As the team navigates injuries and inconsistent performances, the Bucks are left hoping that top players can regain form and the bench can continue to support the starting five, solidifying their playoff hopes.
