HOUSTON — The Houston Rockets secured a thrilling 117-113 overtime victory over the Orlando Magic on Sunday night, fueled by standout performances from Kevin Durant and Alperen Sengun.

Durant scored 35 points, while Sengun contributed 30 points and 12 rebounds in a game that saw Houston come back from an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter.

With less than a minute left in overtime, Amen Thompson gave the Rockets a lead with a dunk assisted by Durant. The pivotal moment unfolded when Jabari Smith Jr. blocked a layup attempt by Franz Wagner, followed by Durant’s crucial step-back jumper, pushing the Rockets ahead 113-110.

Orlando’s Wagner made two free throws to trim the deficit, but Reed Sheppard‘s free throws extended Houston’s lead to 115-112 with just 4.1 seconds remaining. Wendell Carter Jr. attempted to close the gap with free throws but was called for a lane violation. Thompson then sealed the game with two successful free throws.

The Rockets dominated the boards, securing a 60-38 rebounding advantage, which proved crucial as they overcame a strong Magic team. Wagner led Orlando with 29 points, while Desmond Bane added 26 in a game where Orlando was without key players due to injuries.

Despite trailing for much of the game, Houston found its footing in the second half, showcasing offensive resilience. Sengun’s scoring ability and playmaking were instrumental in the win, as he also achieved a career-high in assists.

The victory marks Houston’s fourth consecutive win, improving their record to 9-5, positioning them as strong contenders in the Western Conference under head coach Ime Udoka’s system.

The Rockets will next take on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday, continuing their push for a playoff spot.
