Joy Reid Transgender Locker Room Debate

New York, NY – Joy Reid, a former MSNBC host, shared her thoughts on the transgender locker room debate during her latest podcast episode, where she discussed recent controversies surrounding transgender individuals in women’s spaces. Reid’s comments came after a viral incident involving singer Tish Hyman, who claimed she was removed from a Gold's Gym in Beverly Hills for confronting a transgender woman in the women’s locker room.

On her podcast, “Reid This Reid That,” which aired on Sunday, Reid expressed that she would be alarmed to see a penis in a women’s locker room. She stated, “I would be disturbed. I would be alarmed. I’m alarmed enough when I see a woman with her dangling boobies.” Reid emphasized she would feel the same shock, saying, “If I saw a penis in the ladies’ locker room, I would freak out, too.”

The incident that sparked this conversation involved Tish Hyman, who went viral earlier this month after her altercation with Alexis Black, a transgender woman. Hyman accused Black of harassing women at the gym, leading to a social media outcry. Reid defended Hyman’s feelings, arguing that discomfort in such situations is valid.

Reid explained her viewpoint further, saying that if someone sees a naked man in a female locker room, they have the right to feel uneasy and should be able to approach management about their concerns. “What it’s saying is if I turn around and I see a pee pee, a penis in front of me inside of the room, I would probably go to management and say, ‘Wait a minute. Why is there somebody — a naked man — in this room?’” Reid argued.

Reid’s comments reflect ongoing tensions in discussions about privacy and safety in shared spaces. “Because if she’s uncomfortable, does she not have the right to be at least uncomfortable with the situation?” she concluded, reinforcing the need for discussions around comfort and safety in locker rooms.
