Lakers 2000 Nba Finals Game Ball Auction

New York, NY – A significant piece of basketball history from Los Angeles is set for auction: the game ball used by the Los Angeles Lakers during their 2000 NBA Finals victory. Bidding begins on November 25 and runs until December 11, with the auction hosted by Sotheby's at The Breuer Building.

This iconic ball comes from Game 6 of the Finals against the Indiana Pacers, where the Lakers won 116-111. It marked the franchise’s first championship since 1988, kicking off the legendary dynasty of Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal.

Sotheby’s expects the game ball to attract bids between $300,000 and $500,000. “It’s a precious piece of equipment that symbolizes a pivotal moment in NBA history,” said a Sotheby’s spokesperson.

In addition to the Lakers ball, the auction features several other high-profile sports items. Among them is a full set of championship rings from the Chicago Bulls, as well as a game-worn debut jersey from Golden State Warriors player Kevin Durant, worn on October 25, 2016. Baseball fans can also look forward to acquiring jerseys worn by the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 2024 Jackie Robinson Day game.

Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s Head of Modern Collectibles, praised the exhibition, stating, “The exhibition captures the evolution of greatness across generations. It’s an unprecedented moment for collectors and fans alike to experience the artistry, history, and emotional power of sport under one roof.”
