Chris Redman Named Head Coach of Louisville Kings in Historic Appointment
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The United Football League (UFL) announced today that Chris Redman will be the inaugural head coach of the Louisville Kings. This historic hire marks a new chapter for both the franchise and the city.
Redman, a Louisville native and Super Bowl champion, expressed his excitement about the opportunity. “I am incredibly grateful and excited for the opportunity to represent the new Louisville Kings,” he said. “Louisville is home. I’ve been fortunate to have so many people support me throughout my career, and I know they’ll be behind me and the Kings as we work to bring a championship to this city.”
The former University of Louisville quarterback is celebrated for his college career, where he was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year in 1999. He is also recognized as the all-time leading passer for the Cardinals, throwing for over 12,500 yards during his college years.
“Chris represents the heart and soul of the city,” said UFL Co-owner Mike Repole. “He will pair that passion with elite leadership at every level to build a championship culture for the Kings.”
After being drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2000, Redman played in the NFL for over nine seasons, including winning a Super Bowl with the Ravens. He has limited coaching experience, having served as an assistant coach at Arlington/Midlothian High School in Texas.
The Kings have not yet finalized their roster or schedule, as they prepare for the league’s kickoff on March 27, 2026. Redman emphasized his commitment to building a team with championship-level experience. “We’re going to make Louisville proud,” he affirmed.
The UFL will feature eight teams this season, including new franchises in Orlando, Florida, and Columbus, Ohio. The league aims to foster a competitive and engaging football experience for players and fans alike.
