Actor Michael Pitt Faces Assault Charges in Domestic Abuse Case

Brooklyn, New York — Actor Michael Pitt, 44, was arrested Friday and arraigned in Brooklyn Supreme Court on charges of sexual abuse and domestic violence. The allegations stem from four incidents between April 2020 and August 2021 at his home in Bushwick.
Pitt faces two counts of first-degree sexual abuse and additional charges, including first-degree criminal sex act and second-degree assault. Prosecutors allege that he sexually assaulted his ex-girlfriend, with violent encounters involving a wooden plank and a cement block.
According to court documents, Pitt reportedly forcibly fondled the victim and later assaulted her in June 2021 with a cinderblock. On August 7, 2021, he allegedly strangled her. The incidents took place during his relationship with the woman, who has not been publicly named.
Pitt’s attorney, Cary London, described the accusations as “uncorroborated” and stated that they look forward to proving his innocence. “Unfortunately, we live in a world where somebody like Mr. Pitt — an accomplished professional — can be arrested on the uncorroborated word of an unhinged individual,” London said.
This is not Pitt’s first run-in with the law. He was arrested in July 2022 for allegedly assaulting another man and for petty larceny. Reports also indicated that he was hospitalized later that year for being “emotionally disturbed” after an incident involving throwing objects from a rooftop.
Pitt pleaded not guilty to the current charges before Judge Joanne Quinones, who set bail at $100,000, which he posted after the arraignment. He is scheduled to return to court on June 17.
