Anc Names Maqueen Letsoha Mathae As Premier Candidate For Free State Province

The African National Congress (ANC) has officially designated Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae as its Premier Candidate for the Free State Province, succeeding Mxolisi Dukwana. The decision was communicated by Fikile Mbalula, the Secretary-General of the ANC, in a public statement on the social media platform X. The inauguration ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow’s session at the provincial legislature.

Letsoha-Mathae, a seasoned politician currently holding positions as the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) Treasurer General and Free State MEC for Community Safety, Roads, and Transport, is anticipated to lead the province with commitment and enthusiasm.

The selection of Letsoha-Mathae has triggered responses from various sectors. Mayibuye Bangani, the Provincial Secretary of the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in the Free State, recognized the transition, affirming, “ANC Provincial Chairperson Cde Mxolisi Dukwana, you remain the political head of this province.”

An ardent ANC supporter took to social media to commend Cde Dukwana’s contributions, asserting, “Cde Dukwana spearheaded the rejuvenation and reconstruction efforts of our party with remarkable success. The electoral outcomes in the Free State reflect his achievements. Cde MaQueen now has a solid foundation to build upon and prioritize service delivery. She requires the collective support of all members.”

The Provincial Secretary of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the Free State, Bosanku Msimanga, had previously noted Letsoha-Mathae’s potential during a discussion on Central News. Msimanga remarked, “Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae is mounting a vigorous campaign to become the next Premier of the Free State and is engaging in bold moves and robust lobbying. She enjoys the backing of the ANC Women’s League.”

The political journey of Hon. Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae is characterized by notable accomplishments:

The ANC’s decision to nominate Letsoha-Mathae as the Premier candidate for the Free State followed an extensive interview process conducted from 10 to 12 June 2024. The process was commended for its transparency and thorough methodology. The ANC’s Electoral Committee, headed by Cde Kgalema Motlanthe, praised the caliber and dedication of all candidates.
