Austin Fc Vs San Diego Fc Match Preview

AUSTIN, TexasAustin FC will host San Diego FC at Q2 Stadium on Sunday, March 23, 2025, for a highly anticipated Major League Soccer match that kicks off at 3:00 p.m. CT. This contest features MLS’s newest team as the VERDE & Black aim to extend their winning streak.

Austin FC enters this match fresh off a 1-0 victory against LAFC, marking the first time a visiting team earned a result at BMO Stadium this season. Guilherme Biro scored the lone goal, heading the ball in off an assist from Owen Wolff. With this triumph, Austin FC sits in seventh place in the Western Conference and looks to build on their success in front of the home crowd.

“We want to maintain our momentum and reward our supporters with another three points,” a spokesperson for Austin FC stated ahead of the match.

In contrast, San Diego FC is in a strong position early in their inaugural season, currently ranked second in the Western Conference with two wins and two draws. The team, spearheaded by Head Coach Mikey Varas, has seen standout performances from Danish forward Anders Dreyer, who has netted three goals across four games.

San Diego FC came off a recent 1-1 draw against Columbus Crew but managed to secure solid wins in their previous road matches, including a 2-0 victory over defending champions LA Galaxy and a 3-1 win against Real Salt Lake. “We aim to leverage our strong start to continue our undefeated road streak,” stated Varas, reflecting the team’s confidence going into the match.

However, San Diego will face challenges with several key players ruled out due to injuries and international duties. Forward Hirving “Chucky” Lozano is sidelined with a hamstring issue, while Marcus Ingvartsen is expected to be out for 10 to 12 weeks. Furthermore, defender Anibal Godoy is unavailable as he represents Panama in the CONCACAF Nations League final.

“Winning or losing is not how we assess things,” Varas remarked regarding team performance. “We focus on development and the individual growth of our players regardless of the outcome.”

Fans can catch the match live via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, with broadcasts available in both English and Spanish. Local radio listeners can tune in to iHeart Radio’s Alt 97.5 for English commentary and Univision’s TUDN Radio Austin for Spanish.

The Player Availability Report indicates that Austin FC will also be without several players, including Mikkel Desler, who is out due to a hamstring injury, and others unavailable due to international duties.

As the excitement builds for this Sunday match, both teams are looking to secure vital points early in the season. Austin FC is determined to challenge San Diego’s undefeated road record, promising a thrilling encounter for soccer fans.

After Sunday’s match, San Diego FC returns home to face LAFC on March 29, while Austin FC aims to solidify their playoff positioning.
