Australian middle-distance sensation, Jess Hull, has had an incredible week of record-breaking performances, solidifying her status as a top athlete in the lead-up to the Paris Olympics. In the recent Monaco Diamond League meet, Hull shattered the world record in the women’s 2,000 meters, clocking a remarkable time of 5:19.70. This achievement came on the heels of her outstanding performance just days prior in the Paris Diamond League, where she broke both the national and Oceania records in the 1,500 meters.

Following her standout run in Paris, Hull notched another historic milestone in Monaco, setting a new world record that surpassed the previous mark set by Francine Niyonsaba of Burundi. The 27-year-old’s stellar form places her as a genuine medal contender at the upcoming Paris Olympics track and field events, slated to begin on August 1.

Hull’s extraordinary performances have garnered praise from former Australian athlete Benita Willis, who heralded Hull’s ability to handle pressure and predicted a potential upset at the Olympics. Willis expressed confidence that Hull’s recent displays of dominance could break the long-standing Australian Olympic medal drought in the 1500 meters event.

During the Monaco meet, other Australian athletes also showcased their skills, with Nina Kennedy securing victory in the women’s pole vault and Mackenzie Little finishing as the runner-up in the women’s javelin competition. Despite a challenging run, Oli Hoare placed seventh in the highly competitive men’s 1,500 meters race won by Norwegian star Jakob Ingebrigtsen.

The impressive results from Hull, Kennedy, Little, and Hoare highlight Australia’s strong presence in international athletics. Hull’s remarkable journey from the Albion Park to the global stage reflects her dedication and talent, setting the stage for an exciting showdown at the Paris Olympics. With the support of her team and the nation behind her, Hull is poised to make history in her pursuit of Olympic glory.
