Lakhimpur Bank Elections Clash

In a dramatic turn of events, an altercation unfolded on Wednesday in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, involving Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Yogesh Verma and the President of the Bar Association, Awadhesh Singh. The incident occurred during the nomination process for the Urban Cooperative Bank elections and was marked by a slap delivered by Singh to Verma, sparking a larger conflict between their respective supporters.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Lakhimpur Kheri, a dispute arose following a heated exchange between the two factions at the nomination site. The police presence intervened to pacify the situation, yet tensions flared, resulting in a physical confrontation.

The altercation was reportedly triggered by allegations of electoral malpractice. It was reported that MLA Yogesh Verma had expressed objections regarding the alleged tearing of the voter list. Verma accused Singh’s faction of orchestrating fraud within the election process.

Consequent to the incident, the video of the conflict has gone viral on social media, capturing widespread public attention. In response to the situation, police reinforcements have been deployed outside the Urban Cooperative Bank to maintain order.

A larger police force has been stationed on-site due to the palpable tension. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the nomination process, scheduled to conclude at 5:00 PM, proceeds amidst a backdrop of high tension.
