Brandon Nimmo New York Mets Baseball Game

NEW YORK, NY — Brandon Nimmo made history on Monday as he drove in nine runs, tying a franchise record for the New York Mets in a 19-5 victory over the Washington Nationals at Citi Field.

Nimmo, 32, achieved this remarkable feat with a grand slam and a three-run homer, marking his seventh career multi-homer game. He finished the game with four hits and four runs scored, improving his batting average from .192 to .218.

The Mets have been on a hot streak, winning nine of their last 11 games, and now hold a 20-9 record, the best in Major League Baseball. Alongside Nimmo, Jeff McNeil and Mark Vientos also contributed to the score, with Vientos hitting a three-run homer in the ninth inning.

In the sixth inning, Nimmo faced left-hander Colin Poche, who had replaced Nationals starter Trevor Williams. Nimmo hit a fastball deep into right-center field, extending the Mets’ lead to 3-0. His second grand slam came an inning later, capping a remarkable performance against Nationals pitcher Cole Henry.

With a two-run double in the eighth inning, Nimmo matched the franchise record of nine RBIs, previously set by Carlos Delgado during a doubleheader against the New York Yankees on June 27, 2008.

Reflecting on his achievement, Nimmo shared a moment with Mets first base coach Antoan Richardson. “He said, ‘Well, nine RBIs, that must be the best of your career, right?’ I said, ‘Yeah, it definitely is,’” Nimmo recalled. “These days don’t come around that often, and you just relax and enjoy it.”

Nimmo became only the third player in MLB history to record nine or more RBIs in three innings of a game since the statistic became official in 1920. He joins the ranks of Ivan Rodriguez and Sammy Sosa, who accomplished similar feats in the past.
