Brazil’s Beatriz Souza Wins Gold at Pan-American Judo Championship

Santiago, Chile — Beatriz Souza secured another gold medal for Brazil on Saturday, April 26, 2025. The judoka triumphed at the Pan-American and Oceania Judo Championship after defeating New Zealand’s Sydnee Andrews in the over 78 kg category.
Souza’s victory added to a strong performance by the Brazilian team, which had multiple athletes standing on the podium. Luana Carvalho claimed bronze in the under 70 kg category, while Nauana Silva showcased her skills and captured gold in the under category. Additionally, Rafaela Silva earned a bronze medal.
In the under 57 kg category, Shirlen Nascimento won gold, and Bianca Reis took home bronze. Among the lighter competitors, Jéssica Pereira (under 52 kg) secured silver, while Natasha Ferreira (under 48 kg) became the champion.
Brazil’s male judokas also excelled, with five reaching the highest podium position. Leonardo Gonçalves (under 100 kg), Rafael Macedo (under 90 kg), Gabriel Falcão (under 81 kg), Ronald Lima (under 66 kg), and Michel Augusto (under 60 kg) all won gold medals. Rafael Buzacarini (over 100 kg) and Daniel Cargnin (under 73 kg) earned silver, while Luan Almeida (under 81 kg) finished in third place.
With these remarkable results, Brazil currently leads the tournament, having achieved a total of nine gold, three silver, and four bronze medals. The Brazilian team will return to the mat on Sunday, April 27, for the mixed team competition.
