Milwaukee Brewers Vs Tampa Bay Rays

TAMPA, Fla. – The Milwaukee Brewers faced a frustrating loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night, May 9, at George M. Steinbrenner Field, ending their latest road trip with a controversial finish.

The Rays took a 4-3 victory after a pivotal interference call in the sixth inning. This call involved Caleb Durbin, who was accused of obstructing a baserunner sliding into third. The ruling allowed Christopher Morel to score from third, leading to Brewer’s manager Pat Murphy‘s ejection for arguing the call.

Murphy expressed his frustration after the game, stating, “I still disagree with it. They’ll tell me I’m wrong because anytime you argue it they tell you you’re wrong.” Milwaukee did manage to tie the game in the eighth inning before falling to the Rays.

Despite out-hitting Tampa Bay 8-7, the Brewers now have a 7-13 record on the road this season and a 19-20 overall mark. Milwaukee’s Jackson Chourio had three hits, but he also committed a critical error in the third inning, allowing the Rays to score their first run.

Three walks by pitcher Jared Koenig in the eighth helped the Rays regain the lead as he walked in the go-ahead run. Koenig commented after the game, “It’s tough, especially in a close game like that. I need to do better.”

Milwaukee’s starter, José Quintana, allowed three runs on five hits and struck out three over four innings. His performance included surpassing the 2,000-inning milestone for his career, becoming one of only five active pitchers to do so.

Following this tough match, the Brewers are looking to regroup against the Rays again on Saturday, May 10, with right-hander Tobias Myers slated to start against Tampa Bay’s Taj Bradley. Time for the next game is set for 3:10 p.m.
