Brooklyn Nets Guard Ben Simmons Ruled Out for Remainder of Season Due to Lingering Back Issues
The Brooklyn Nets announced on Thursday that guard Ben Simmons will be sidelined for the rest of the current NBA season due to a persistent nerve impingement in his lower back. This setback has plagued the 27-year-old Simmons throughout the season, with ongoing consultations underway to determine the most effective treatment approach.
Simmons’ recurring back problems date back to last season when he missed 24 regular-season games and the entire first-round playoff series due to nerve irritation. Despite being cleared for play at the start of this season, Simmons’ return was short-lived, featuring only six games before another extended absence.
His latest attempt to come back on Jan. 29 was followed by further setbacks, leading to his current status. His agent, Rich Paul, shouldered the responsibility for the challenges in managing Simmons’ ongoing health issues amid the pause in his career.
In the 15 games he played this season, Simmons averaged 6.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 5.7 assists, showcasing glimpses of his versatile skill set. However, without clarity on a treatment plan, his return to the court remains uncertain as discussions with medical experts continue.
The Brooklyn Nets, currently 11th in the Eastern Conference with a 25-37 record, have faced hardships in the playoff race following Simmons’ absence. They trail the Atlanta Hawks by three games for a spot in the Play-In Tournament, emphasizing the impact of Simmons’ inactivity on the team’s performance.
