Cambodia and Singapore Launch Cross-Border QR Code Payments
Phnom Penh, Cambodia – ACLEDA Bank Plc. announced the official launch of Phase 1 of cross-border QR code payments between Cambodia and Singapore on November 12, 2025. The event was presided over by H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, the Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia.
This initiative allows Cambodian travelers to Singapore holding Khmer Riel bank accounts to make secure payments by scanning RoamQR codes at merchants across Singapore. The partnership includes ACLEDA Bank and Liquid Group Pte. Ltd. from Singapore and aims to promote local currency use while facilitating real-time transactions.
The cross-border QR system enhances trade, investment, and tourism between Cambodia and Singapore, contributing to both nations’ economic growth. ACLEDA Bank has previously implemented similar QR payment systems with other countries, including Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, and Japan.
Mrs. Mar Amara, Senior Group Chief Financial Officer of ACLEDA Bank, highlighted that the collaboration with Singapore is a crucial step towards improving regional payment interoperability. This move aligns with ASEAN‘s vision for advancing inclusive digital economies and fostering financial innovation.
In addition to its payment innovations, ACLEDA Bank operates four subsidiaries, including ACLEDA University of Business Co., Ltd. and ACLEDA Securities Plc. As of September 2025, the bank reported total assets of US$11.94 billion and over 6.18 million customers.
The event signifies a growing partnership with Singapore, with future plans to extend cross-border QR payment services to India and other regional partners.
