Central Coast Mariners Vs Melbourne Victory 2024

The Central Coast Mariners and Melbourne Victory are set to lock horns in the opening match of the 2024/25 Isuzu UTE A-League season. The contest will take place this Friday at Industree Group Stadium on the Central Coast, a return to the scene of last year’s Grand Final. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:35 pm AEDT and the match will be broadcast on Paramount+.

Melbourne Victory will begin their campaign with all players available, except for Daniel Arzani who is serving a one-match suspension due to an accumulation of yellow cards during the 2024 Finals Series. However, the team is bolstered by the return of Nishan Velupillay and Jason Geria from Socceroos duty. Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo remains optimistic about his side’s prospects as they enter the new season, with the club’s impressive record in season openers, not having lost since 2018/19, providing a confidence boost.

The Mariners, the defending champions, will face their opponents without their captain, Trent Sainsbury, who is sidelined until the new year due to an injury. Despite this setback and the departure of key player Dan Hall to Auckland, Head Coach Mark Jackson is unfazed. “We’ve embraced the challenge,” Jackson stated. “Even with our accomplishments last year, we’re still considered underdogs, and that works in our favor.”

The Central Coast team has gained valuable match experience, having already played competitive fixtures in the Asian Champions League. Jackson emphasized the importance of starting strong in front of home fans and improving team cohesion after significant player turnover during the off-season. “It’s about embedding the players into our culture and playing style,” Jackson noted.

Melbourne Victory’s extended squad for the fixture includes returning stars such as Bruno Fornaroli and notable new signings. Meanwhile, the Mariners’ squad relies on players like vice-captain Brian Kaltak to step up in Sainsbury’s absence. “We look at how we can exploit our opponents,” Jackson mentioned, highlighting the Mariners’ strategic approach.

This match not only marks the start of the new season but also presents a rematch of the previous season’s Grand Final. Both teams are set to reignite their rivalry on and off the pitch, adding to the excitement for fans and stakeholders alike.
