Former England and Manchester United football star Wayne Rooney has caused concern among fans regarding his health after being photographed looking despondent during a recent match. Rooney, aged 38, was seen attending Manchester United’s 3-0 loss at Old Trafford, where his presence and unimpressed demeanor drew attention from spectators.

Rooney, who is currently managing Plymouth Argyle, has been enjoying a positive period in his coaching career with two victories from the last four games in the Championship league. Despite these professional successes, his physical appearance during the recent match raised questions among supporters.

A photograph of Rooney, wearing a black coat, was published by Sky Sports on the social media platform X. It prompted a flurry of comments from users who expressed worry about his condition. One user commented, “He looks really bad,” while another added, “Rooney looks older than his age, he needs to take care of himself.”

In response to the discussions about his appearance, Rooney has previously acknowledged challenges with maintaining his weight after his retirement from professional football in 2021. “Over the last year, I’ve put a little bit of weight on,” he admitted during an appearance on Sky’s Monday Night Football in 2022. He further explained that his suit from the Premier League Hall of Fame ceremony was presently the only one that fit him due to recent weight gains.

Rooney also detailed in his 2012 autobiography, “My Decade In The Premier League,” the difficulties he faced in managing his weight during his playing career. He wrote, “I’m like most blokes, I put on a few pounds after a holiday. Even if I don’t train for a week, I put on two or three.”

The discussion highlights ongoing concerns about the health and well-being of retired athletes as they transition into new career paths, emphasizing the importance of maintaining physical health post-retirement.
