NEW YORK, NY — The highly anticipated romantic comedy *Materialists*, directed by Celine Song, hits theaters on June 13, 2025, starring Dakota Johnson as Lucy, an ambitious matchmaker caught in a tricky love triangle.

In *Materialists*, Lucy’s professional life becomes complicated when she crosses paths with her potential new romance, Randy, played by Pedro Pascal, at a matchmaking event. The same night, she unexpectedly reconnects with her ex, John, portrayed by Chris Evans, igniting a rivalry for her affection, as highlighted in the recently released trailer.

“As a young and ambitious New York City matchmaker, Lucy finds herself torn between the perfect match and her imperfect ex,” reads the film’s official synopsis. The trailer suggests that this love triangle may also undermine Lucy’s confidence in her career.

“When I see your face, I see wrinkles and children that look like you. So where does that leave us?” John asks Lucy in a tense moment from the trailer, which has left audiences buzzing about the chemistry between Johnson and Evans.

Joining the cast are Marin Ireland, Zoe Winters, and Dasha Nekrasova, contributing to an ensemble that showcases rising talents alongside established stars. *Materialists* is only Song’s second feature film, following her acclaimed directorial debut *Past Lives*, and is anticipated to further solidify her status in the film industry.

A24, the film’s distributor, has gained a reputation for producing compelling stories with a unique perspective. Recent A24 releases include *On Becoming a Guinea Fowl*, which debuted on March 7, and the star-studded *Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich* film, released on March 14.

Evans, well-known for his role as Captain America, recently appeared in the holiday film *Red One* and will next star in Ethan Coen’s *Honey Don’t!*. His co-star, Pascal, is set to make his debut as Reed Richards a.k.a. Mister Fantastic in *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*, scheduled for release on July 25, as well as returning for the second season of HBO’s *The Last of Us*, premiering April 13.

In addition to her role in *Materialists*, Johnson is working on a upcoming marriage comedy titled *Splitsville*. As excitement builds for *Materialists*, predictions are that it will become a significant addition to the romantic comedy genre.

*Materialists* will be in theaters on June 13, 2025.
