Damson Idris Wins Naacp Image Award With Mother As Good Luck Charm

British actor Damson Idris clinched his first NAACP Image Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series at the 55th NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles, thanks to the presence of his mother, Philippa Idris, as his ‘good luck charm.’

Idris, known for his role in the FX dramaSnowfall,’ revealed that his mother’s attendance at the star-studded event proved to be a game-changer in his award-winning night.

During an exclusive chat with theGrio, the 33-year-old expressed his gratitude, emphasizing how he believed it was all part of divine timing, acknowledging his spiritual beliefs. He highlighted the significant role his mother played in his triumph, noting that previous nominations had not resulted in a win until she accompanied him.

Having been nominated twice before for his portrayal of Franklin Saint in ‘Snowfall,’ Idris attributed his success to his mother, who had flown all the way from Lagos, Nigeria, for the occasion, enduring a grueling 17-hour journey.

In his heartfelt acceptance speech, Damson Idris lauded the NAACP and his ‘Snowfall’ family, expressing his admiration for past winners like James Earl Jones, Michael K. Williams, and Laurence Fishburne, whom he now stood alongside as a fellow honoree.

Reflecting on his future endeavors, Idris shared insights on his upcoming role in an untitled Formula One race film alongside Hollywood heavyweight Brad Pitt. The movie, a production of Apple Studios, commenced filming in the United Kingdom in 2023 and is set to feature Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton and acclaimed actor Javier Bardem.
