David Muir Honored at TIME100 Gala for Influence and Journalism

NEW YORK CITY, NY — David Muir, the anchor and managing editor of “World News Tonight with David Muir,” was honored at the TIME100 Gala on April 24, 2025, after being named one of the most influential people of the year.
The gala, held at Jazz at Lincoln Center, celebrated Muir and other notable figures including actress Blake Lively and director Demi Moore. Muir reflected on his past experiences, including a town hall he moderated with Pope Francis, saying, “I knew that he was just taking a measure of the man he was about to spend an hour with.” Muir described the encounter as “humbling” and praised the pope’s compassion.
Muir will also lead extensive coverage of Pope Francis’s funeral, focusing on his legacy as the 266th head of the Catholic Church. The viewing in St. Peter’s Basilica will allow worshippers to pay their respects before the funeral mass.
While on the red carpet, Muir discussed the importance of mentorship in his career, highlighting the roles of his parents and his early experiences in local television. He expressed gratitude for those who encouraged him, stating, “At 13, I probably couldn’t put words to the fact that I wanted to get out there and see the world. I’m grateful to them.” He also honored Diane Sawyer, his mentor at ABC News, as a significant influence on his career.
“Diane’s an inspiration. She’s the real icon,” Muir said while reflecting on their professional relationship.
The TIME100 Gala showcased a range of influential figures, underlining the importance of leadership and commitment to societal change. It marked the culmination of a two-day celebration honoring the individuals who shape cultural and social narratives.
