Delhi Police Seizes 200 kg of Cocaine in Major Drug Bust
In a significant bust, law enforcement officials in west Delhi have seized 200 kilograms of cocaine, valued at approximately Rs 2,000 crore. This operation, carried out by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police, marks the second largest cocaine seizure in the capital within a week.
The cocaine, disguised in packets of salted snacks, was tracked through GPS to a location in the Ramesh Nagar area of west Delhi. A police spokesperson confirmed that the confiscated narcotics are linked to a larger international smuggling syndicate. “It is part of the same syndicate where the Delhi Police seized Rs 5,600 crore worth of cocaine,” stated the official.
This latest discovery follows an even larger confiscation on October 2 from a storage facility in Mahipalpur, south Delhi, where over 560 kg of cocaine and 40 kg of hydroponic marijuana were seized. The contraband from that raid was valued at approximately Rs 5,620 crore.
As part of the ongoing investigation, six individuals connected to the syndicate have been apprehended. Among them is Jitendra Pal Singh, who was arrested at an airport in Amritsar as he attempted to flee to the United Kingdom. Singh, who has been a ‘permanent resident’ of the UK for the past 17 years, was captured following the issuance of a look-out circular (LOC) against him by the authorities.
The Delhi Police have identified connections to organized crime networks in the UK and Dubai. During interrogations, the name of Virendra Basoya, an Indian national residing in Dubai, surfaced, indicating potential links to the West Asian country.
Earlier in the week, as part of these coordinated efforts, two Afghan nationals were arrested in Delhi’s Tilak Nagar area with 400 grams of heroin and 160 grams of cocaine in their possession. Additionally, a man from Liberia, who arrived from Dubai, was detained under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985.
The law enforcement’s concerted and successful operations continue as they dismantle segments of the narcotics syndicate entrenched across the capital and beyond, reflecting a significant effort in combating the proliferation of illegal drugs.
