Diversity and Unity: Bulldogs Hosts Annual Iftar Event at Belmore Sports Ground
As the sun set over Belmore Sports Ground on March 25, the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs welcomed over 500 community members to their Annual Iftar event, marking a celebration of diversity and inclusion.
The event, held at the Bulldogs’ spiritual home, saw people from all walks of life gather to pray, break fast, and share a meal in the grandstand – a gesture of unity and respect.
Khaled Rajab, a Bulldogs player observing Ramadan, was supported by his teammates and staff in honoring his faith during the holiest month of Islam.
Ramadan, a period of fasting, giving charity, and strengthening one’s relationship with God, holds deep significance for Muslims around the world.
Rajab shared how the act of fasting during Ramadan provided him with mental strength and a sense of humility, giving him perspective on the struggles of others.
Coach Cameron Ciraldo and the Bulldogs organization were praised for their support and encouragement of Rajab’s observance of Ramadan, showcasing a commitment to diversity and cultural awareness.
Deputy Chair John Khoury highlighted the role of sport in bringing people together, emphasizing the cultural diversity within the City of Canterbury-Bankstown and the Bulldogs community.
Hazem El Masri, a Bulldogs legend, and his wife Arwa Abousamra had previously collaborated with the Club on hosting the inaugural Iftar event in 2022, further solidifying the Club’s dedication to inclusivity.
With a significant Muslim population in the Canterbury-Bankstown area, the Bulldogs’ Annual Iftar event serves as a platform to celebrate diversity and foster unity among residents.
As Ramadan comes to a close and Eid al-Fitr approaches, the Bulldogs extend warm wishes of Eid Mubarak to all those celebrating the end of the holy month.
