Elizabeth Debicki Emmy Win 2024

Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki has achieved a significant milestone by winning an Emmy Award. The 34-year-old actress was honored with the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama for her portrayal of Princess Diana in Netflix‘s popular series, “The Crown.” This win is notable as it marks the first time an Australian actress has secured this category.

During her acceptance speech, Debicki admitted to being superstitious and had not prepared a written speech. She humorously stated, “I didn’t write anything down because I’m very superstitious and now I’m in a real pickle, so I’m going to do this quickly.” She expressed her gratitude towards Peter Morgan, the creator of the show, saying, “Thank you for making this show. Thank you for trusting me with this.”

Overwhelmed by the moment, Debicki thanked the cast and crew of “The Crown,” and spoke about her experience portraying Princess Diana. She described the role as a great privilege and stated, “Playing this part, based on this unparalleled, incredible human being has been my great privilege. It has been a gift.”

Debicki began her journey as Princess Diana on “The Crown” in its fifth season, continuing into the sixth and final season. The concluding season portrays events from 1997 to 2005, including Princess Diana’s relationship with Dodi Fayed, and the tragic car accident in 1997 that claimed their lives.

The 76th annual Emmy Awards are broadcasting live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, and Elizabeth Debicki’s win is among the highlights of the evening. Her performance has clearly resonated with viewers and critics alike, bringing her crucial acclaim and recognition.
