Actress Jane Seymour to Speak at High Point University Commencement 2025
HIGH POINT, N.C., Sept. 3, 2024 – Jane Seymour, the acclaimed Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress, has been announced as the Commencement speaker for undergraduate students at High Point University on May 3, 2025.
Seymour is widely recognized for her role in the television series “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman,” which has contributed to her enduring popularity. Her career began to flourish after starring alongside Roger Moore in the 1973 James Bond film “Live and Let Die.” Over the years, she has appeared in more than 100 films and television programs and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1999.
High Point University will also feature a distinguished speaker for the graduate Commencement ceremony on May 1, 2025, with the details to be announced soon. Although these ceremonies are private for HPU graduates and their families, they will be streamed live for broader access.
HPU President Nido Qubein emphasized the importance of bringing influential leaders to campus to share their insights. He stated, “Our graduates will benefit from hearing from Jane Seymour, who has risen to the top of her profession and remained there for more than five decades thanks to her determination and hard work.”
Both Qubein and Seymour have been honored with the prestigious Horatio Alger Award, recognizing outstanding leaders who have overcome adversity. Qubein received the award in 2006, while Seymour was honored in 2022.
Jane Seymour’s most notable role as the lead in “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman” earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a TV Drama Series in 1995. She was also appointed Officer of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 2000.
Throughout her career, Seymour has showcased her versatility by starring in films across different genres, including the 1980 romance “Somewhere in Time,” the 1982 adventure “The Scarlet Pimpernel,” and the successful comedy “Wedding Crashers,” which was the highest-grossing comedy of 2005.
Additionally, Seymour established the Open Hearts Foundation, inspired by her mother’s experiences during World War II. She has co-authored several books aimed at children and self-help, as well as launched a line of jewelry, scarves, and clothing under her label, Jane Seymour Designs.
