Adelaide Crows have made a daring move to bring back Geelong captain Patrick Dangerfield to their roster. As reported by Mitch Cleary of 7NEWS, the Crows have launched an audacious bid to lure Dangerfield away from the Cats.

Dangerfield, who recently turned 34, is currently in the final year of his contract with Geelong. Despite being a restricted free agent, the Crows have shown interest in acquiring him without the need for a trade deal.

According to Cleary, Adelaide has initiated contact with Dangerfield’s camp, expressing their belief that he would be a valuable addition to their young squad. This bold move signifies the Crows’ aggressive stance in the upcoming off-season, aiming to secure Dangerfield’s return to his former club.

While Adelaide’s approach adds an intriguing twist to Dangerfield’s future, discussions regarding a contract extension with Geelong are reportedly in progress. The Cats’ management is likely to engage in further negotiations with the veteran player.

Despite currently sidelined due to injury, Dangerfield is anticipated to make his comeback on the field in the coming weeks. The Cats may opt to delay contract discussions until after their bye week in Round 14.

Having taken on the captaincy of Geelong in 2023, succeeding Joel Selwood, Dangerfield faced challenges in his inaugural year as skipper. The Cats missed the finals under his leadership, marking an uncommon occurrence during coach Chris Scott‘s tenure.

It remains uncertain whether Dangerfield would entertain the notion of returning to Adelaide, where he commenced his AFL career. Notably, the star player departed the Crows at the end of the 2015 season to join Geelong and pursue success in Victoria.

Since his move to Geelong, Dangerfield’s career has soared to new heights, clinching prestigious accolades such as the Brownlow Medal, multiple All-Australian selections, and AFL MVP titles. His contributions played a pivotal role in Geelong’s triumph in the 2022 premiership, where he narrowly missed out on the Norm Smith Medal.

As the speculation surrounding Dangerfield’s future intensifies, both Geelong and Adelaide await his decision, which could potentially reshape the dynamics of the AFL landscape.
