Aston Villa Close to Signing Everton’s Amadou Onana in £50m Deal
Aston Villa is on the verge of securing a deal with Everton to acquire midfielder Amadou Onana in a transfer worth around £50 million. The negotiations are in advanced stages, with personal terms already agreed between Villa and the 22-year-old player.
Amadou Onana has emerged as a prime target for Villa as they gear up for their debut in the Champions League next season, under the management of Unai Emery. The midfielder is reportedly excited about the prospect of joining Villa under Emery’s guidance.
Everton’s stance on the proposed transfer is firm, signaling that they are unlikely to entertain any offers for Ben Branthwaite this summer, barring substantial bids for the defender. Branthwaite is considered a key asset by Everton, standing alongside notable defenders like Keane and Mina.
The Toffees have rejected two bids from Brentford for Amadou Onana, underscoring their valuation of the talented midfielder. Onana, who arrived at Everton from Lille in 2022 for an initial fee of £30 million, has showcased his talent with 72 appearances for the club, including 37 in the previous season.
Several top clubs, including Manchester United and Bayern Munich, have previously shown interest in Onana, highlighting his growing reputation in the football world. Lille, Onana’s former club, also has a stake in any potential profit from his transfer.
Amadou Onana’s recent involvement with Belgium in Euro 2024 ended in the round of 16 with a defeat against France. Nonetheless, his performances in the tournament have further elevated his standing in the transfer market.
Alongside the pursuit of Amadou Onana, Aston Villa has bolstered their midfield this summer with the signings of Enzo Barrenechea from Juventus and Ross Barkley from Luton Town. Notably, Douglas Luiz departed for Juventus, while Tim Iroegbunam made the switch to Everton.
