Bomb Threats Cause Panic in Delhi-NCR Schools
Panic spread across schools in the capital city of Delhi and its neighboring region of Noida on the morning of May 1, 2024, as approximately 100 educational institutions received alarming bomb threat emails.
Quoting verses from the Quran, the threatening emails were sent to numerous schools, causing a wave of anxiety among students, parents, and faculty members. Some emails originated from a Russian ID, prompting a cyber investigation to trace the sender.
Authorities swiftly sprang into action, with Delhi and Noida police conducting extensive searches using bomb disposal units and dog squads. Schools were evacuated as a precautionary measure, while various fire calls were reported to the Delhi Fire Services.
Senior police officials, including DCPs Rohit Meena and Ankit Chauhan, confirmed the receipt of threatening emails by multiple schools in different districts. Schools such as Delhi Public School, Mother Mary School, Sanskriti School, and Amity School were among those affected.
Parents rushed to schools to retrieve their children, while authorities assured heightened security measures and urged citizens not to panic. LG VK Saxena directed a thorough investigation to identify the culprits and ensure the safety of school premises and students.
The Director of Delhi Fire Services, Atul Garg, revealed that they received a surge of calls reporting bomb threats, but subsequent searches yielded no evidence of danger. Despite the false alarms, schools remained vigilant, orchestrating safe evacuations and reiterating their commitment to student safety.
