Disney Unveils New Cruise Ship, Disney Treasure, as Part of Fleet Expansion

Disney Cruise Line is set to launch a new era of expansion with its latest ship, Disney Treasure, marking a significant milestone for the company. The ship is scheduled to embark on its maiden voyage from Port Canaveral, Florida, to the Caribbean next month. This new addition will be the sixth ship in Disney’s fleet, which has not seen a new vessel in a decade.

The Disney Treasure measures 221 feet in height and 1,119 feet in length, with a capacity to accommodate 4,000 passengers and 1,555 crew members. It features themed dining experiences, curated lounges, and premium on-board live entertainment, maintaining the unique Disney flair seen in its other ships.

Thomas Mazloum, president of Disney’s new experiences portfolio and Disney signature experiences, highlighted the strong demand for Disney cruises, noting, «Disney Cruise Line is going through an unprecedented period of growth. The demand that we’re seeing right now for Disney Cruise Line is very strong. We’re a premium brand, occupancy is high, and frankly, the business is doing really, really well.»

Disney plans to double its fleet by 2031. Two new ships, the Disney Destiny and the Disney Adventure, are expected in 2025, with additional ships planned in conjunction with a partnership with Oriental Land Company to bring Disney’s cruise vacations to Japan.

In the fiscal year, Disney’s experiences division, which includes parks, resorts, and consumer products, reported record revenue and profit. The division’s revenue rose by 5% to $34.15 billion, while operating income increased by 4% to $9.27 billion. This segment was the second-highest revenue driver, following the entertainment division.

Despite a smaller fleet compared to other major cruise lines, such as Carnival and Royal Caribbean, Disney is recognized for its premium offerings. Prices for a seven-night cruise on the Disney Treasure start at $6,994 for a family of four, with variations for special holiday cruises.

The Disney Treasure is noted for its innovative cruising experiences, incorporating Disney’s storytelling into its offerings. Gavin Doyle, an expert in Disney experiences, stated, «Disney redefined the cruising space when they entered, and that was in the way they were designing the ships in a guest-centric way that they serviced people on board, and also the beloved characters and intellectual properties that they can integrate.»

The ship offers rotational dining experiences, allowing passengers to dine at various themed restaurants, with a consistent staff for personalized service. The dining venues include Plaza de Coco, inspired by the 2017 film «Coco,» and Worlds of Marvel, featuring shows like «Avengers: Quantum Encounter.»

Adult-exclusive venues on the Treasure include Palo Steakhouse and Enchante, inspired by «Beauty and the Beast,» and themed bars such as the Haunted Mansion Parlor and Skipper Society. These spaces offer unique experiences for those traveling without children.

Disney’s approach caters to families, with facilities like It's a Small World nursery for young children and the Oceaneer Club for older kids. The ship also hosts Broadway-style shows and sports zones to provide entertainment for all ages.
