Exceptional 14-Year-Old Landon Dupont Chosen First Overall in WHL Draft
The Western Hockey League (WHL) draft made history as 14-year-old talent, Landon Dupont from Calgary, was selected as the first overall pick by the Everett Silvertips, a team located north of Seattle.
Announced on Thursday, Dupont, a skilled defenceman playing for Calgary Edge School’s U18 team, joins a prestigious group of players who received special exceptional status to play in the WHL a year earlier than usual. Notably, he is the ninth player to be granted this distinction, following in the footsteps of notable talents like Michael Misa, Connor Bedard, and Connor McDavid.
With his selection, Dupont, son of a former Calgary Flames player, is set to commence his WHL career a year ahead of schedule, entering the league in Grade 10 once the season kicks off.
