During a Congressional Oversight Committee hearing, tensions escalated as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene sparked a chaotic exchange among representatives. The committee had convened to discuss a motion regarding Attorney General Merrick Garland and the release of an audio recording from President Joe Biden‘s interview with special counsel Robert Hur.

The Department of Justice and the White House had conflicting views on the release of the recording, leading to a heated discussion among committee members.

Rep. Greene’s remarks targeted Rep. Dan Goldman, triggering a response from Rep. Jasmine Crockett questioning the relevance of the comment to the discussion on Garland.

Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez intervened, condemning Greene’s personal attack on Crockett’s appearance and calling for her comments to be stricken from the record.

Despite the calls for decorum, the exchange escalated with Greene challenging Ocasio-Cortez to a debate and making derogatory remarks about her intelligence.

Chairman James Comer struggled to maintain order as the bickering continued, with additional disputes arising among committee members including Rep. Anna Paulina Luna and Rep. Melanie Stansbury.

Greene’s history of confrontational behavior towards Ocasio-Cortez was evident during the hearing, signaling a pattern of ongoing feuds between the two representatives.

The hearing concluded with a vote on advancing contempt proceedings against Attorney General Garland, reflecting the contentious atmosphere that characterized the session.
