Ilkay Gundogan Finalizes Return to Manchester City from Barcelona
Ilkay Gundogan is currently in the United Kingdom completing his return to Manchester City from Barcelona on a free transfer. The 33-year-old midfielder is expected to undergo a medical examination with City on Thursday, where he is set to sign a one-year contract with the option for an additional year.
Gundogan has expressed his desire to return to Manchester City, choosing to overlook interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Reports indicate that Barcelona has allowed him to leave as part of their efforts to manage their wage bill.
Gundogan originally joined Barcelona last summer on a free transfer after spending seven successful years at Manchester City. During his time at City, he played a significant role in the team’s success, captaining them to win the Premier League title and achieving a historic Treble.
Prior to his move to Barcelona, Gundogan made 304 appearances for Manchester City, scoring 60 goals and winning 12 major trophies, including five Premier League titles and the prestigious Champions League. His impact on the team was crucial as he was a key player during his tenure.
The German international recently announced his retirement from international football. As of now, Manchester City is also considering potential transfers, including the possibility of acquiring Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze.
