The mysterious case of Laci Peterson is back in the headlines thanks to a new true crime series titled ‘American Murder: Laci Peterson’, which premiered on August 14.

This three-episode series includes interviews with both Laci and Scott Peterson‘s family members as they try to understand what happened that fateful Christmas Eve nearly 21 years ago.

Laci, who was 27 years old and eight months pregnant when she disappeared from her home in Modesto, California, was last seen on December 24, 2002. Her remains and those of her unborn son, Conner, were discovered four months later, floating in the San Francisco Bay.

<p.The creator of the series, Borgman, mentioned in an interview, “It’s important to highlight the victim. Laci has often been overshadowed by Scott Peterson and his situation.”

Scott Peterson was found guilty of murdering Laci and their unborn son following a highly publicized court case. He is currently serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole but continues to insist he is innocent.

Peterson was arrested in April 2003, just days after Laci and Conner’s bodies washed ashore. He was charged with two counts of murder, having pleaded not guilty during his arraignment. During the investigation, he initially claimed to have gone fishing on Christmas Eve.

In January 2003, Amber Frey, a massage therapist, revealed she was in a relationship with Scott, who had falsely told her he was single. This revelation added another layer of complexity to the case.

The trial began in June 2004 and lasted for five months, with the jury finding Scott guilty on November 12, 2004. Initially sentenced to death, his death penalty was overturned in 2020, but his murder conviction stands.

Now 51 years old, Scott Peterson resides in Mule Creek State Prison and remains ineligible for parole. Earlier in 2023, the Los Angeles Innocence Project petitioned for new evidence to be considered in his case.

With the recent series release, both ‘American Murder: Laci Peterson’ and another upcoming Peacock special, ‘Face to Face with Scott Peterson’, the events surrounding Laci’s disappearance are receiving renewed attention.
