Authorities in Mexico are conducting a thorough investigation into the mysterious disappearance of two Perth brothers, Callum and Jake Robinson, and their American companion, Jack Carter Rhoad. The trio went missing during a surfing trip in the Baja California region, sparking concerns among family and friends.

The brothers and Rhoad were last seen near the K-38 surf spot, a popular surfing location along the Baja Highway south of Rosarito. They had failed to check into their Airbnb accommodation and did not return to their planned activities, raising alarms about their welfare.

Jorge Argoud, operational deputy director of security in Ensenada, confirmed that authorities discovered an abandoned camping site believed to have been used by the missing travellers. Additionally, a mobile phone and a vehicle linked to the group were found, intensifying the search efforts.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed concern over the situation, stating that the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (Dfat) officials were in contact with the Robinson family following the disappearance. The Australian embassy in Mexico is collaborating with local authorities to determine the whereabouts of the missing individuals.

Mexican police have questioned three individuals, including a woman found with a mobile phone that contained a photo resembling one of the missing brothers. Maria Elena Andrade Ramirez, Baja California’s chief prosecutor, disclosed that evidence connecting the trio to the disappeared men has been uncovered, prompting a deeper probe.

Debra Robinson, the mother of the missing brothers, issued a heartfelt appeal on Mexican social media for assistance in locating her sons, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. She shared details about the white Chevrolet utility the group was travelling in, hoping for a positive resolution.

The Western Australian premier, Roger Cook, expressed distress over the incident, highlighting the risks associated with overseas adventures. This event brings back memories of the tragic 2015 murder of WA surfers Adam Coleman and Dean Lucas in Sinaloa, Mexico, underscoring the importance of safety during travel.
