Over 1.5 million pilgrims from around the globe are converging on Mount Arafat today, marking the 9th Dhul Hijjah, 1445 AH, part of the annual Hajj rites. This gathering symbolizes a spiritual journey where individuals seek the mercies and forgiveness of Allah.

Mount Arafat, also known as Jabal Rahma or Mount of Mercy, holds a special place in the hearts of Muslims worldwide. It is situated about five kilometers east of the Masjid Haram in Makkah, where pilgrims begin their pilgrimage by donning the white seamless Ihram.

The significance of today extends beyond the physical act of the pilgrimage, as Muslims globally observe this day as a time for deep spiritual engagement, including fasting for non-pilgrims. It is a day filled with mercy and forgiveness.

For the pilgrims, standing at Mount Arafat signifies the pinnacle of their spiritual journey. It is here that Prophet Muhammad delivered his renowned Farewell Sermon, emphasizing unity of Islam, equality of mankind, and the shared values of humility.

Throughout the day, pilgrims engage in acts of worship, seeking forgiveness, making supplications for their worldly and hereafter affairs. They listen to the sermon at Masjid Namirah within the precinct of Arafat before proceeding to Muzdalifah at sunset, where they spend the night.

NAHCON, under the leadership of Prince Anofiu Elegushin, has ensured comprehensive preparations for Nigerian pilgrims, emphasizing proper sensitization and adherence to Hajj protocols. The commission is committed to a successful Hajj experience for all participants.

To combat the high temperatures expected during this year’s Hajj, Dr. Abubakar Adamu Isma’eel, leading the medical mission, advises pilgrims to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight, and seek shade. The medical team is well-prepared to address any health concerns during the pilgrimage.

As the pilgrimage unfolds, leaders like Sheikh Abdulrahman Al Sudais emphasize the importance of unity, moderation, and cooperation among Muslims globally. The Haramain Sharifain serve as a beacon of spiritual guidance, fostering a sense of brotherhood and shared humanity.
