Notorious B.C. Serial Killer Robert Pickton Attacked in Prison
Notorious B.C. serial killer Robert (Willie) Pickton was reported to be on life support following a violent attack by another inmate at Quebec’s maximum security Port-Cartier Institution. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, with Pickton sustaining severe injuries.
Sources revealed that the assailant, who had a history of assaulting other prisoners, targeted Pickton with what appeared to be a broken broom-like handle. The Correctional Service Canada confirmed the assault, stating that the Sûreté du Québec is investigating the matter.
Following the attack, Pickton was airlifted to the Hospital of the Child Jesus in Quebec City for emergency medical treatment. His current condition remains undisclosed, with the CSC assuring that appropriate measures have been taken regarding the assailant.
Notably, Pickton had informed fellow inmates about a potential book wherein he intended to shift blame for the women’s murders, for which he was convicted, onto someone else. The Port-Cartier Institution, where the assault took place, houses 237 male inmates in a high-security setting.
Lorimer Shenher, a former lead detective with the Vancouver Police during the missing women investigation, expressed concerns about the assault. While critics have also raised objections over recent RCMP decisions to destroy numerous exhibits seized from Pickton’s property, adding further complexity to the case.
The news of Pickton’s attack has reignited public scrutiny, raising questions about his eligibility for day parole earlier this year. Political figures and victims’ families vehemently opposed the possibility of Pickton’s release, emphasizing the gravity of his crimes.
