NRL Seeks Exemption from Auckland Council for Historic Origin Match in 2027
The National Rugby League (NRL) is pushing for an exemption from the Auckland Council in New Zealand to host a historic State of Origin match at Eden Park in 2027. Talks are currently on hold due to a noise restriction policy that could disrupt the game.
Eden Park, known for its proximity to residential areas, enforces a strict noise policy limiting sound levels post 10.30pm to 40 decibels, posing a challenge for the NRL’s desired 9.30pm kick-off timing for the match.
Despite negotiations being paused following a change in government in New Zealand, the NRL remains committed to expanding its presence in the country, considering plans for a new team in the south island over the coming decade.
Angus Crichton‘s remarkable return to the NSW Blues saw him purchase 36 tickets for friends and family to witness his comeback, setting a personal record within the team. Debutants like Joseph Suaalii, Haumole Olakau’atu, and others were also granted additional tickets by NSWRL during their camp.
Socceroos’ goalkeeper Mat Ryan showed support by attending the Blues’ game and training sessions, with a close bond existing between Ryan, NSWRL executives, and players. The recent Blues squad displayed a noticeable shift towards reduced alcohol consumption during their camp, fostering a more relaxed atmosphere.
The media’s interaction with the NSW team was limited by coach Michael Maguire, indicating a change in approach from previous open-access campaigns. Dylan Edwards notably chose to remain in camp, highlighting strong team camaraderie and dedication.
