Parramatta Eels Appoint Jason Ryles as Head Coach for Four-Year Term
The Parramatta Eels have made a significant coaching announcement, appointing Jason Ryles as their new Head Coach for a four-year term starting in 2025. Ryles will transition from his current role as an Assistant Coach at the Melbourne Storm to lead the Eels in the upcoming seasons.
Ryles, a former rugby league player representing NSW and Australia, has built a strong coaching career since 2014. Notable coaching positions include his time as an Assistant Coach at the Melbourne Storm, England Rugby team, and the Sydney Roosters before returning to the Storm in 2024.
Described as one of the emerging coaching talents in the sport, Ryles will take over the Eels head coaching position from the current interim coach Trent Barrett, who stepped in after the team’s disappointing performance during Magic Round.
In interviews following the appointment, Jason Ryles expressed his excitement, noting the rich history and passionate fan base of the Parramatta Eels. Club Chairman Sean McElduff commended the choice, citing Ryles’ proven success in high-performance environments and talent development as key strengths for the club’s future.
Parramatta Eels CEO Jim Sarantinos highlighted the club’s confidence that Ryles can guide the team towards championship contention, especially given the young talent within the team and the pathway programs.
While the Eels have faced challenges in recent seasons, including a struggle to secure a finals spot and a current position near the bottom of the NRL ladder, the appointment of Jason Ryles signals a new chapter for the club in their quest for premiership success.
Ryles’ coaching journey, marked by successful stints with notable teams like the Storm and the Roosters, positions him as a credible figure to lead the Eels into a promising future in the NRL competition.
Leading up to his commencement with the Parramatta Eels later this year, Jason Ryles will complete his coaching duties with the Melbourne Storm, adding to the anticipation surrounding his arrival at the Parramatta club.
