Preparations Underway for the Passing of Larry the Cat at Number 10
Officials at Downing Street are reportedly developing a media plan for the eventual announcement of the passing of Larry the cat, a cherished resident of Number 10.
At 17 years old, Larry is approaching the end of his life, as he has already surpassed the average lifespan of a tabby cat. Sources from the government indicate that a press release, along with accompanying graphics, has been prepared for the sad day of his death.
Larry, often seen lounging outside the door of Number 10 during significant political events, was adopted from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home and has become a symbol of comfort for the British public. He was initially brought to Downing Street by former Prime Minister David Cameron as a pet for his family.
Currently, there are concerns regarding how the news of Larry’s death will be conveyed to the public. One source reported that, while Larry is presently in good health, it is essential to manage the situation with sensitivity.
Since his arrival in February 2011, Larry has outlasted five prime ministers and earned the official title of Chief Mouser. His biography on the Cabinet Office website highlights his responsibilities, including inspecting security measures and ensuring the quality of antique furnishings for napping.
Over the years, Larry has not only witnessed political changes but has also interacted with other feline residents, notably embroiling himself in feuds with the Foreign Office’s cat Palmerston and the former Chancellor’s cat Freya.
The social media presence of Larry has thrived, with a parody account on X noting that plans are being formulated for the announcement of his passing when the time comes.
