Renowned Journalist David Marr to Host Radio National’s Late Night Live Following Phillip Adams’ Retirement
Renowned journalist David Marr is set to take on the mantle of hosting Radio National‘s Late Night Live following the retirement of veteran presenter Phillip Adams after an illustrious 33-year career.
Marr, a recipient of the prestigious Walkley Award, has an extensive background in journalism which includes editing roles at The National Times and contributions to media outlets such as Media Watch, Four Corners, as well as publishing acclaimed works like ‘Killing for Country: A Family Story’ and biographies of literary figure Patrick White and former Chief Justice Sir Garfield Barwick.
In a statement, Marr expressed a mix of honor and trepidation at his upcoming role, noting, «I’m honored and terrified. It’s going to be a ball.»
Addressing his new appointment, Marr highlighted his admiration for Late Night Live, praising its blend of meticulous preparation and engaging presentation, affirming, «I love that combination of authority and fun.»
The decision to bring Marr on board comes as Phillip Adams, aged 84, prepares to retire from the national broadcaster due to health concerns, with his final broadcast scheduled for June 27.
Dina Rosendorff, RN Manager, acknowledged the challenge of replacing Adams but expressed excitement at Marr’s arrival, noting, «David is the right combination of intellect, curiosity and, of course, a wicked sense of humour.»
David Marr is slated to begin hosting Late Night Live on July 15, with plans to continue until the end of the year, with potential for a longer-term commitment based on performance and reception.
Adams, known for his in-depth interviews and irreverent style, will be remembered for his significant contributions to the ABC, with his departure marking the end of an era for loyal listeners, affectionately known as ‘Gladdies’.
