Roof Collapse at Delhi Airport Terminal-1: One Dead and Six Injured, Operations Halted

Early hours at Delhi Airport‘s Terminal-1 turned tragic as a portion of the roof collapsed, resulting in one fatality and six injuries. The incident occurred during heavy rainfall, leading to ongoing rescue operations. Delhi Airport, operated by Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), witnessed the collapse causing significant damage to parked cars.

Emergency personnel are diligently working to assess the impact and ensure safety. The injured individuals have been hospitalized for treatment, with one person rescued from a car trapped under an iron beam. The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) quickly responded to the distress call and dispatched fire-tenders to the site.

Delhi Airport’s Terminal-1, primarily handling domestic flights, experienced roof collapse around 5 am, prompting a temporary halt on departures and closure of check-in counters. However, flight arrivals remained unaffected by the unfortunate incident.

Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu is personally overseeing the rescue efforts and has directed airlines to assist affected passengers at Terminal-1. The situation is under scrutiny by authorities, with legal actions expected to follow in response to the incident.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi, managed by the GMR Group, consists of multiple terminals including T1, T2, and T3. The collapsed roof at Terminal-1, built during the late 2000s, has brought attention to infrastructure safety and maintenance standards.
