Efforts to contain the raging fires on Table Mountain in Cape Town continue as firefighters battle the blaze for the third consecutive day. The fire, which started in the Table Mountain National Park, has raised concerns about the safety of the surrounding areas.

The University of Cape Town (UCT) has assured its community that the fires have not impacted the Upper Campus and pose no immediate threat to the university. The Properties and Services Department (P&S) is closely monitoring the situation in collaboration with relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety of staff and students.

Collaborative efforts between the P&S, the Department of Student Affairs, South African National Parks, and the City of Cape Town are ongoing to support the firefighting operations. The fire line on Table Mountain remains visible, particularly in the Orange Kloof and Fernwood areas, far from residential properties.

Jermaine Carelse, spokesperson for the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services, confirmed that the fire is still active high up in the Orange Kloof and Fernwood region. Access to the lower slopes of Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, where the fire also continues to burn, remains restricted.
