Television Executive Nkateko Mabaso Passes Away, Leaving A Void In The Entertainment Industry

Television executive Nkateko Mabaso, affectionately known as NK, has tragically passed away, sending shockwaves through the South African entertainment industry. Mabaso, renowned for his visionary leadership and creative contributions, had a significant impact on M-Net‘s landscape.

Mabaso’s untimely death was announced by MultiChoice, where he had held various instrumental roles. His remarkable career included spearheading the growth of the iconic Mzansi Magic and overseeing notable productions like Isibaya and The Queen.

In a statement, Nomsa Philiso, MultiChoice SA’s CEO of general entertainment, expressed deep sorrow over Mabaso’s passing, highlighting his lasting legacy and pioneering spirit in the industry.

Mabaso leaves behind his wife Mathapelo, son Tshimologo, and parents Xithlangoma Bob and Lizzy Mabaso. His influence extended beyond borders, having also worked for global brands like Netflix and travelled extensively.

Having earned accolades such as being named one of Destiny Magazine’s Top 40 Under 40 and Mail and Guardian’s Top 200 Young South Africans, Mabaso’s impact on the media landscape is undeniable.

From his early roles at M-Net to his leadership at Netflix and recent freelance endeavors, Mabaso’s journey showcased his passion for content curation and distribution – a passion that resonated at events like the SABC Video Entertainment Content Fest 2024 in Johannesburg.
