Twenty-two children have tragically lost their lives, and over 130 have sustained injuries following the collapse of a school building in Plateau state, specifically at Saint Academy located in the capital city of Jos. The incident occurred during school hours, leaving numerous students trapped under the debris.
Local resident, Abel Fuandai, expressed shock at the scale of the tragedy, revealing that a friend’s son was among the deceased. The state government has initiated an investigation citing structural weaknesses and the unsafe riverbank location of the school.
The collapse, which occurred after heavy rains, prompted volunteers and emergency responders to engage in a frantic rescue operation using various tools to extricate the victims.
