Tragic Loss of Tech Executive Before Yacht Incident
In a heartbreaking turn of events, Stephen Chamberlain, the former vice president of finance for Autonomy, tragically passed away just days before his co-defendant Mike Lynch found himself in a dangerous situation off the coast of Sicily.
Chamberlain was out for a run when he was struck by a car on Saturday morning in Cambridgeshire. His lawyer, Gary Lincenberg, shared that this courageous man bravely fought to clear his name earlier this year amid serious allegations.
Both Chamberlain and Lynch faced fraud charges for allegedly inflating the value of Autonomy before it was sold to tech giant Hewlett-Packard in 2011. The trial saw them acquitted of all charges back in June, offering a glimmer of hope after a long legal battle.
Just as the news of Chamberlain’s death emerged, Mike Lynch was reported to be missing after the luxury yacht he was on capsized in a tornado while sailing near Sicily with several other tourists.
The yacht, named Bayesian, was carrying 22 people, and rescuers managed to save 15 of them, including a young British girl. Sadly, the body of the ship’s cook was recovered, adding to the heavy toll of this disastrous event.
Chamberlain was remembered not only for his professional endeavors but also for his contributions to the community as a finance director for Cambridge United and his time at cybersecurity firm Darktrace.
