Xander Schauffele showcased his prowess at Valhalla Golf Club by firing a remarkable opening round of nine-under 62 at the PGA Championship, equaling the lowest score in men’s major championship history.

The Olympic champion was determined to bounce back from his recent loss at the Wells Fargo, where he squandered a final round lead. Schauffele’s flawless performance marked his bid to capture his maiden major title.

Setting a record-equalling round, Schauffele joined the elite company of Rickie Fowler and Branden Grace, who had also achieved a 62 at major events.

Rory McIlroy and Robert MacIntyre trailed four shots behind Schauffele, showcasing their prowess on the course with impressive five-under rounds.

Defending champion Brooks Koepka, aiming for a historic repeat victory, remained a strong contender with a solid four-under 67, featuring an exquisite eagle finish.

Tiger Woods, a major title holder at Valhalla, commenced his comeback event with a one-over 72, highlighting the challenges of limited competitive rounds post-injury.

World No.1 Scottie Scheffler, fresh off becoming a father, entered the tournament seeking to reignite his competitive drive after a brief hiatus.
