YouTuber Dhruv Rathee Faces Legal Action for Parody Account’s Fake Post on Social Media
Maharashtra‘s cyber police have taken legal action against prominent YouTuber Dhruv Rathee following a contentious fake post made by a parody account on a social media platform.
The parody account, named @dhruvrahtee on X, alleged that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla‘s daughter had cleared the UPSC exam without actually appearing for it, causing a stir in online circles.
Notably, the handle @dhruvrahtee clearly disclaimed any affiliation with Rathee’s original account, stating that it was a fan and parody account.
Acting on a complaint from a Birla relative, the Maharashtra cyber department invoked sections of the IT Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the YouTuber for defamation and mischief-mongering.
Despite the post originating from a parody account, the cyber police are actively investigating the matter to discern the facts and determine the appropriate course of action.
In a previous incident earlier this year, Aam Aadmi Party‘s Swati Maliwal faced threats following a video by Rathee concerning an alleged assault involving Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal‘s aide, Bibhav Kumar.
Rathee, in response to ongoing defamation attempts and threats, took to social media to express frustration over the consistent attacks on his reputation without directly naming those behind it.
With this latest legal development, the online community awaits further updates on the outcome of the investigation and any potential repercussions for Rathee in light of the parody account’s actions.
