The second day of the Para Powerlifting competition at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games promises thrilling contests and remarkable performances. Four Paralympic champions will be crowned at La Chapelle Arena on September 5, showcasing some of the best talents in the sport.

The women’s up to 50kg final will kick off the day’s events. Great Britain’s Olivia Broome, the reigning world champion and Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist, is anticipated to lead the competition. However, the emergence of new competitors at recent World Cups hints at an exciting rivalry.

In the men’s up to 59kg final, China’s Qi Yongkai is the defending Paralympic and world champion, making him the one to beat. Other strong contenders include Al Salvador’s Herbert Aceituno and Iran‘s Mohsen Bakhtiar, who are eager to showcase their skills.

Among the highlights of the day is the women’s up to 55kg final, where a showdown is expected between Ukraine’s Mariana Shevchuk and Egypt’s Rehab Ahmed. Shevchuk is the reigning Paralympic champion, while Ahmed, the current world champion and record holder, is in excellent form.

The final event of the day will be the men’s up to 65kg final. China’s Zou Yi stands out as a strong competitor, being the reigning world champion and record holder. However, Iran’s Amir Jafari Arangeh will be looking to convert his Tokyo 2020 silver into gold.
