Final Cost of Living Payment of £299 to be Sent Next Week to Eligible UK Households
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that the final cost of living payment of £299 will be sent to eligible households next week. This payment is part of a series of cash boosts aimed at assisting households during the ongoing cost of living crisis. It is the third and final payment of a total of £900 to be sent out in the 2023/24 tax year.
The payment will begin being sent to households on February 6 and will continue until February 22, 2024. Eligible households will receive the payment automatically, without needing to apply or take any action. The support package, which includes the £299 payment, aims to provide extra assistance to households struggling with the rising cost of living.
Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Mel Stride, emphasized the importance of protecting the most vulnerable while ensuring fairness for taxpayers. Chancellor Jeremy Hunt acknowledged that although inflation has halved, some families still face significant cost-of-living pressures, making these payments crucial.
To be eligible for the £299 cost of living payment, individuals must already receive certain benefits or tax credits. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) encourages low-income pensioners who are not receiving Pension Credit to check their eligibility, as they may still qualify for the cost-of-living payment.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) warns the public to be cautious of any scam messages related to the cost of living payment, as there have been reports of fraudulent attempts to obtain personal information by pretending to be government entities.
