Lake Tahoe Recreation Closures Winter 2025

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The U.S. Forest Service has started its annual procedure of closing recreation facilities around Lake Tahoe for the winter season. These seasonal closures affect various amenities, including buildings, restrooms, and parking areas at numerous recreation sites such as beaches, campgrounds, interpretive sites, picnic areas, and resorts.

Some facilities began closing earlier this month. Notable closures include the Angora Lakes Resort cabins and store, as well as the Echo Chalet marina and store. While national forest lands will remain accessible throughout the year, access may be limited during winter due to weather conditions and the unavailability of services.

Forest Service roads are anticipated to start closing in mid-November. Visitors should check the official website for specific dates and updates on closures, as these details are subject to change based on local conditions and weather forecasts.

Officials remind visitors that winter services will be minimal, with most sites lacking water, restrooms, and trash collection. To ensure safety and preservation of resources, the Forest Service encourages all visitors to recreate responsibly by packing out all garbage, including pet waste, parking legally, and avoiding any obstruction of locked gates.

With the approaching winter season, the Forest Service aims to keep visitors informed about the latest closures and the importance of responsible outdoor recreation.
